Learning from every coach

My DD has had quite a few coaches in her baseball/softball career (including at times her father and I). Some were great, some were not. From the very beginning we have always stressed to her how to act with every single coach that she has. She is expected to thank every coach (we as parents do the same), after every practice and game (no matter the outcome) because they have given her their time, help and encouragement . She is expected to work her hardest (in practice, not just games) for every coach/team - no matter how the rest of the team is acting. She is expected to respect and keep an open mind with every coach she encounters - no matter their experience level. She can learn something from every single coach that she encounters.

So thank you to all you coaches out there - just in case you don't hear it from your own players/parents!!!

If every parent/kid thought this way there would be no drama to complain about in this forum! Thank you for the kind words

As a coach I'll add that it seems like I learn something from every player.... sometimes I learn a more effective way to get a point across, or what not to say again, but I am learning every day too

This^ is a very important statement.

We run into many coaches that "know it all" already and have nothing to learn. There is always something to learn; about the sport, human dynamics, biomechanics and life lessons. Wishing more coaches were open to the possibility of learning.

To original poster: we do the same and have seen just a few others as well but it is rare. Nicely stated!
