I have players on my team that aren't interested in playing for college but they don't know why. I think it is a matter of them not realizing all the options out there outside of the 32 teams they saw in the WCWS. Others may have interest in it if someone shows some interest in them.

I have a weekend that we are scheduled to play a tournament but as of now, signups have been slow. The turnout for the showcase is looking pretty good. I doesn't appear to be as big as some of the other showcases in the area that teams have signed up for (10 vs 66 and 73 respectively).

From what I have read on this site, it isn't likely that someone will get noticed when a coach isn't expecting to see them but is it still worth it to go play in it anyway? I think there is value in it and I don't feel like I am taking the spot of another team or anything like that.

Should we play in it?

Yes. Don't think twice about playing in it unless you feel your team could not compete with the teams entered. Go have fun. It may open a door or change the mind of a player on your team. You might want to educate your players and parents on the options besides D-1. If you feel like you do not have the knowledge find someone who does.

Thanks. That is what I was thinking too. Outside of having a stud pitcher, we can ball. The pitchers I have can throw strikes though. They will get hit around a bit but we have a solid defense behind them.

I can't wait to get these tournaments started.

True Story.
I have a girl, second year with me now, and she was planning on going to college, but not playing softball. We went to a showcase last season and she was slotted to pitch. A coach from a D3 school was looking for a center-fielder. He was observing my center-fielder and liked what he saw.

As we talked he kept commenting on my pitcher. He said he liked her profile (her pitching mechanics and demeanor) and wanted to know more about her. I gave him all the information, and he talked to her and her parent briefly. At our next tournament, my pitcher threw the game of her life.

Since then, she now believes that she can compete at a D3 level. Her game, her hustle, her attitude about college have all changed for the better. She just needed someone other than me telling her she was good enough.

My advice is go to these showcases and try to get a couple of the college coaches to talk to your players. Let them know there is a place for them to play after HS.
