Sports Drinks vs Water ?

Ok here we go ! A Coach told me to do this test ? Have half the team drink water and the other drink Gatoraide or any other sports drink Starting @ 11 o'clock and at the end ov 2-3 hours have then to Spit, yes Spit, HE said the ones drinking water could spit and the ones drink the Sports drinks Couldn't. Proving the sport drinks don't hydrate you as good as water and notice the players the Sport juice junkies are whooped just "look and see" he said, the other players were just as tired but not whooped ? I haven't tried this but will in the fall.

This Coach is a good friend and the real deal , won lots of games and tournament's, he said the sun will bring out the conditioned players the junkies can be seen late in the game
?
He said if you have a double game buy the other team the Juicy Juicy crap and smile on the way home :0

Gatorade was designed for after a work out. Also designed for football players at Florida Hence the name Gatorade. I would never give any child sports drinks. It does nothing for them.

So in fact ingesting Gatorade to thirst in younger subjects results in a rise in sodium concentration, which is why you drink more---you never lower your osmolality below the thirst threshold and therefore are thirstier when ingesting a sports drink, whereas with water you maintain the osmolality right around the thirst threshold and drink and abstain as your thirst comes and goes. With sports drinks you instead just get thirstier, which seems kind of ironic since their slogan is "The thirst quencher!"

Professional and college sports teams drink sports drinks or a combination of water and sports drinks. They've done this for many many years.

I certainly hope no one believes the key to winning is to not drink Gatorade. If you believe this, simply turn on the TV and watch a college football game, perhaps an NBA game if you can stomach it. How do they survive? Millions of dollars at stake and yet many of them are drinking a sports drink.

A sports drink isn't some magic elixir but, at least in moderation, it's a beneficial fluid.

I just wanted to get a full discussion from the coaches in the field and am doing that, I have used water as the main stay 5 gallons in dug-out even at practices and every game regardless of how many sports drinks they bring. And always will . I wanted to hear if other coaches saw any difference in our young players during the water or sports drinks, They are 9-14 ? not the twenty year olds in the commercials . Staying neutral but drinking
water at the same time :)

my older girls team craps out about the fifth inning whenever they play a big team in a later game. the kids hammer gator aide all day. the stuff is mostly sugar. u geta kick up, but after a while ones system crashes. pros are a lousy example since their conditioning is way beyond that of an average youth softball player. boxers drink water during a fight. proof enuff right there for me.

We try to stay away from the sugary stuff and tend to steer towards the sugar free like the poweraid no sugar / zero calorie. But we still have a ton of water as well.

Sports drinks would be great if our girls were working so hard and non stop, inning after inning, that they were sweating profusely during that entire time. But I haven't seen too many youth softball games that fit this description yet. Sports drinks like Gatorade have their place. Softball isn't exactly it. Hydrate with water, early and often.

Friend of mine is the women's strength and conditioning coach at a small D1 school. The athletes are allowed one small poweraide during the game/practice. Water for the rest of practice/game.

Following the advice of DDs hitting/fielding coach (retired MLB player), we do water during games or practices (at least 2 bottles) and electrolytes after, but should be a low sugar version like Gatorade G2 or Vitamin Water Zero, etc. After practice or after every 2 games, DD also does a protein drink (not bar). Also, water only during meals out of the tournament cooler. This has proved an effective approach.
