This is one of the neat things about a DP/FLEX. After you flex runs for the DP and you have dropped down to 9 on your lineup, you can continue to play the flex on defense. Once the FLEX is due up, you bring back your DP and bump your lineup back to 10 players. If she gets on, put in a speedy FLEX to run again. You then have burned up your DP for the game, but it's a good strategy when you have a DP that can hit, but can't run and your FLEX is fast, but can't hit.

Just to clarify, you have not burned up the DP position, you have simply burned the reentry of the player that was in that position. Once you have established the DP/Flex for the game, it can continue to be used throughout. As long as you have elibible subs you can flop back and forth between 9 and 10 positions in the lineup as many times as you want.

My understanding is PGF follows NFHS. You sure they allow more than 10 players? or you can bat the entire line-up of the team? The only time I have seen teams bat the entire line-up was in rec or all-star tournaments

This Championship Sports league and their unaffiliated tournament tweaked rules as quoted. For the most part, the rules look similar to PGF and ASA. Thanks for the clarification of PGF batting rules.

As I noted above, PGF makes a few modifications to NFHS rules to make them like normal travel rules.
- Both feet must be in contact with pitching rubber prior to forward stride.
- For 12U, pitching distance is 40' and metal cleats are not allowed.

As for batting the roster, it is allowed in friendlies, many showcases and even pool games in some tourneys. In fact, teams can bat up to 12 and use the DP/Flex in pool games at PGF Nats.

Triple Crown is where I've typically see the EP/EH.

Thanks for the clarification. That's what I meant to say.

And, USSSA is also different, so it depends on where you are playing. I believe that Utrip allows 2 APs (same as EH or EP, but diff acronym). So you can bat 11, and still use a DP/Flex which would give you Flex for the field.
