I have used in the past the "Beloved Bucket" method for reeling in Attitude and Laziness. Simple if you decide to get an attitude or just being lazy you will be sent to the bucket. I have a special DD on my team that could play with any team, Problem ATTITUDE she is as hard headed as a young goat. (won't go in to the head butting stories). She can pitch, catch, play any position really good but lacks any direction while playing there or in practice, One Head Butt, she was playing SS the other day in game she kept truing to correct the pitcher, and calling her out on every bad pitch ? . Told her lay off the mouth softly and she just put both hands over her ears (smoking here) . The batter that hits SS area she sees her and walks over and stands on 2-base. with her arms crossed. I CALLED TIME ! walked out of dugout and politely said get in the dugout! . after the game her mom wanted to talk to me :) . She said I drafted her daughter to catch. I said Yes MAM I Did . She was my first Pick (that hurts ok) . She told me she only caught one game ! . I said yes she threw behind three runners, threw the ball over the 2base with runners on third twice. Gave the other team by her self 7 runs before I could turn around. Bucket will be brought out this week the first time she or any other will be setting. A Coach said to me that's what the bench is for ? Don't agree the bench is for team players not Attitude. I told the parents and Girls in the first Meeting I cannot Coach Attitude or Laziness and no other coach can either. I want this girl to straighten out but everyone knows she will never make the high school team or any collage program in the country. Oh her mother pulled her from last years All-Star team during their game and took her home ! . You know I didn't know that !. Bucket may Train or Pack Her "That's her Choice" Thanks Grady

I saw a SS stand at her position, last night with her legs crossed. She just stood there.

I asked my pitcher's mom what was up with that and she said "She is the coach's daughter."

12U rec ball. One of my complaints about her attitude, is that she can get someone else hurt, by not covering her position.

Bad attitude is running rampant here in 12U and 14U. I had a catcher quit her 14U LL team, because her teammates were hateful.

11-12 Rec . Beloved Bucket, This Player is not my DD.

Update
Took D aside last night one on one and told her . I feel you should understand where I'm coming from. "G" it would break my heart if I dumped on you and not give your problem my all. Your Attitude will never get you on the High School Team and that would break my heart. You are a good player but your Attitude and non-team playing will never let you play anywhere but in this park, Trust Me ! Good teams won't waste a pick on you much less a Collage scholarship.
We will have to get through this together Don't worry you won't be the only doing the bucket time. So Starting tonight I need you playing where you need to play TOP SHELF.

She has pitched before one or two innings, Tonight our pitcher was sick. I told her let's work this together. Or give our all trying. She said Ok.

Unbelievable difference. Her parents came over and ask what's with "G". I told them exactly what I told her. I also told them My goal is to put a ball player on the field not a home grown brat. Please support me to break that Attitude and this girl will be playing Collage ball . The Dad smiled and walked away .

That's the problem with rec. The parent pays, the girl plays. While I loved coaching the girls in rec, I hated those occasional girls that didn't want to be there or had the "ideal" position that they should be playing etched in their head (whether tattooed there by herself or her parents). I dealt with it and moved on. When I went to TB, I was elated that all of the girls WANTED to be there. Dealt with a few problem "kid/parent" combo, but in TB you can cut the poison or bench them.

You did this kid a favor Grady. I'm sure the parents know she has been a PITA, and they have not been able to get through to her. Maybe they didn't know how, or she didn't want to let them.
Its a start. I think you might just be building a citizen, not just a ball player.

I'm pretty confused by your description of this girl. You start out with "she could play on any team" and a list of all the great things she can do. And then a few sentences later it sounds like she actually isn't very good after all and has a HORRIBLE attitude . . . which means she wouldn't play on most teams.

I would forget the idea of shaming her on the bucket - a kid like this is only going to use that as fuel against you - and that sounds like discipline reserved for a parent to dish out - which obviously hasn't happened for this girl before. I would just bench her every time she disrespects you or another player. Explain to her and her parents that if she wants to play she will be respectful. And then she can decide if she wants to spend this season on the bench or on the field.

Perhaps you missed his description of what his bench is for?
Or
Do you disagree in his idea of what the bench is for?
