Well, I have an update to the thread below about my DD not getting to play. Come to find out she hurt her left thumb a couple of weeks ago and didn't tell anyone. The coach told my wife - who asked the coach after a game when he was by himself - in a nice and open way, why wasn't she playing. His answer was that "she was the 11th best player on the team". There are 11 players on the team. Her response was, "that's ok, but she could get an at bat or two here or there. Your bottom 3 batters either strike out or walk". He said that she was right and walked away. He took the high road and the easy way out, IMHO.
Now, we had to take her to the doctor the next day to check on her thumb. We thought it was a hairline fracture at first, but it is a very bad strain. This would explain why she has not been doing well in practices the last 10 days.
This next part is going to make most of you mad and I don't feel like writing a book about it right now. To make a very long story short and after a heart to heart with my DD, she turned in her uniform. Yes, she quit the team. She was going to be out at least 2-3 weeks and the season is almost over. It is a toxic situation with the coach and other players (mostly because everyone knows she should be playing). I don't believe in quitting something you have started but as toxic as this was, I allowed it. She is a straight 'A' student taking Honors Classes. Her passion is running. She will run cross country this fall and run track next spring. No more travel ball or softball. There have been many painful lessons learned in all of this. The best lesson of all, is that I have became closer to my step-daughter through all of this, we have a very good relationship now. The same with her mother.
There are things in life bigger than a sport. She wants to be a Physical Therapist now and a doctor. I am not going to stop her.
