In your face
Many of these things, absence, not being productive, failing "grades", fighting among members, insubordination, not following orders.............will get you fired in the real world. Are we really scared to teach those lessons to our youth? There was a time when we weren't.

I love the c average before you can play ......you should be able to keep up a c average without hardly studying, most of the running stuff is a little crazy but at least make them do the running around the bases in sprints ....at least your doing something softball related to punish them ...also im all for team punishment but when it starts to be the same kids over and over again I believe in making the trouble makers do the punishment by themselves. At our school they let kids play with less than a c average and to me it makes no sense to me.....

This reminds me of the rules in the movie "Coach Carter". The rules seem pretty reasonable to me for a HS program. The punishments will definitely weed out the kids who can't follow rules or don't want to be there pretty quickly.

-Maintain a C average.
-Treat coaches with respect
-Be on time
-Be at every practice
-Bring your equipment
-No fighting
-No off the field issues
-No trash talk, no poor sportsmanship, hustle on/off field, etc.
-Proper game day uniforms
-No cell phones
-No parental contact during games.

I don't think they are that hard to follow. Those who worry about the punishments should just follow the rules and they won't have to worry about the punishments... or just don't play in that program. Don't do the crime if you can't do the time.

I understand that kids have homework. I've coached for a few decades and have been known to have some intense and long practices. I almost always have had the Valedictorian on one of my teams. They got their homework done. You posted that states have requirements on the length of practices and I mentioned that I have never heard of it. I thought you might have an example or two. That is why I made my comment. I'll Goggle it and see if anything comes up.

What do you think of this rule?

I would rather them take it during HS season instead of May or June when we are doing ASA qualifiers. :)

It is HS ball so as long as they do not do it during play offs, what difference does it make? It may give someone else an opportunity to step up. My DD ticked of her coach when she was a Senior because she and her catcher went on a Disney cruise during spring break and missed 1 day of a meaningless tournament. Was not the end of the world and she was back in the circle when school resumed.

I always found it problematic to punish the player for the actions of the parents. More often than not the scheduling of a vacation is the purview of the parents not the minor children.
