I also use a SKLZ Tripod Tee or Schutt Ultimate Tee. Both are similar to the Tanner tee in that is uses the rubberized cone to hold the ball in place. They are also is on tripod legs with a narrow footprint so you can move it around to work hitting different spots. Under $45 gets my vote as durable and affordable.

Tanner tee!

I bought one back when DD was younger and thinking the regular size might not go low enough, I bought the smaller one. My advice now is, go ahead and buy the regular size. It goes down fairly short and you'll have an easier time setting up for high pitches. However, if you do buy the short one, it's no big deal to buy another short piece of pipe and a pipe connector. You can unscrew the main pipe from the base, add the extra piece and the pipe connector and screw the original pipe into the connector. Then you can have that extra height, at the additional cost of buying and carrying around more pieces of pipe.

I agree. I wish the short one was a bit shorter, though. It doesn't let you place the ball low enough; it's above the knees for most of the HS girls.

I also really like the schutt tee. The rubber cone doesnt hold up extremely long but at $7 to replace it you cant go wrong.

$7 to replace it is going wrong if it doesn't hold up long (and it doesn't). Not to mention shipping and waiting for shipping.

We beat our Tanner tees mercilessly and they keep on standing. You can throw a 10 lb. weight over the base to help keep it upright (or you can let the batter learn to adjust by making them reset the tee every time they knock it over).

Another good feature of the rubber is that it doesn't interfere with the point of contact like the hard plastic Atec tees do; and the Schutt to some degree.

You are right to some extent. I have had some of the tee toppers last a couple weeks and I have had a few last a couple months. I also have a place locally that sells them so I don't have to wait for them. I just recently modified my Schutt tee so the Tee toppers will last longer.

The portability of the Schutt is it's greatest benefit.

Tanner Tees are expensive. Take a good look at one and go buy the parts at Home Depot and construct yourself. Significantly cheaper and quite easy to assemble even if you aren't handy.

$50 isn't expensive compared to tees that don't last a team 3 months. You might break even if you count both time (minimum wage) and material. You can get the Tanner Tee shipped overnight. Not to mention that Tanner and family are very friendly people.

Now, if you're going to make a half dozen not for re-sale, that's a different story. You would come out ahead in that case.

Tanner tee is all made in the USA, too. When I bought mine, I spoke to the the gentleman that invented them, on the phone. Mine looks like new after about 7 years of use.

I saw the Tanner Tee's at a hitting clinic I brought my daughter to on Halloween weekend. Meant to ask where they got it. I ordered one for myself for Christmas last night.
