Uhmmm.....what? They're going into Captain's practices even though it's out of season and not allowed under your state's rules if the HC is there and your DD will be the starting pitcher?

Gotta love those gungho HS coaches. My DD plays HS ball in the fall Aug-Oct and it is 3 hours a day, 6 days a week of practice or games. I always wondered how good our TB could be if we practiced that much!

Man, I often think "if we took the TB team to the HS tourney, we'd win 4 straight titles" and they were all freshman and 2 8th graders last year - LOL - Sometimes watching HS is like watching grass grow. Just keep on cheering.

Yeah... game 2 of our High School season is against a team that has 9 D1 committed upperclassman... and 4 sophomores who maybe also be as well. They had 42 travel players come out to their softball meeting a couple of weeks ago. Their JV team is better than 90% of the varsities and talent wise they would absolutely be competitive in the highest levels of softball. Most - if not all - of their players were on teams that finished high up in either ASA or PGF. Oh and they didn't win state last year...

We have a total of 11 travel players... all but 1 are underclassman. If we don't get run ruled in that game it will be a great victory for us.

Of course the next game on the schedule is against a school that only has one travel player... and she isn't playing high school for that reason.

So yeah, it is going to be up and down.

I guess we are lucky. Of course they still practice 2 plus hours after school but our HS coach coaches travel. He has a top 5 ASA finish and a 3rd place PGF finish and 9 DI commits as of now so we have good coaching. We have a volunteer assistant that won three state titles before she stepped down to start a family and a DI pitcher just started teaching Spanish at the HS so she will be helping. It is never a bad thing when you have a HC that has all the college connections to supplement our travel coaches.

This year Alabama has allowed coaches to work with athletes 2 hours a week in small groups during the off season. DD has missed out on this because of basketball but her MS season will end on the 19th and she is ready to switch into softball mode.

I feel your pain! Two years ago, our newly appointed HS HC who was AC beforehand, told the best pitcher on the team who happened to be a Sophomore at the time while the starting pitcher was a Junior, that she wasn't good enough to be the starting pitcher for the team...EVER! Fast forward to now. The starting pitcher at that time never got recruited for even a D3, the other pitcher transferred HS's and got recruited for a top 50 D1 college as well as setting the HR record for HS ball in the state and the HS teams' new starting pitcher is now a rec-baller who either can't keep it out of the dirt (which the catcher manages to stop 95% of the time or so) or throws it over DD's (starting catcher who is 5' 10" tall and has been recruited by everyone from D1 to D3's as a catcher) to the point where most pitches end up at the backstop. The other 3 upcoming Freshman that are supposedly "studs" aren't even close to being better. It's going to be a looooooonnnnggg season for us as well!

The sad part is, every girl on the field is a TBer and most of them are Seniors with a steady pipeline of replacements. This team, if the HC would have given the other pitcher a game or two and kept her, would have made a solid run at States. Now? No chance in Hell.
