So yesterday was league night they play two games one at 6 and one at 7:30. DD 11 is one of two catchers, however another player has played when needed and enjoyed it. I had told the coach that we were going to there right at 6 because DD is in the middle school play and rehearsal runs until 5:30 and it's a 25 minute drive. This is the last night of the two nights where there was a conflict. Last week he put her last in the order and had her play left and then catch the second game. Last night she gets there at 5:58 and immediately has to gear up and get behind the plate with no stretching or warm up throws because the other catcher had a sore back. So she caught the first game and had one of her best games behind the plate. I was thinking the other catcher must be feeling better since she hit the whole first game and seemed ok. But no DD back behind the plate for game two. Now my DD is a beast and a gamer but today her arm is sore from no warm ups . Should I have said something or as Dad I need to just suck it up.

First of all, the answers will depend upon more information. Is this rec ball or TB? Second, what age group? Either way, she should have at least warmed up throwing with a teammate. Then again, depending upon the age group and playing level, that's on her and you as much as it is the coaches.

She is 11 playing on a 12u c team. I'm fine taking responsibly, but when it's literally from the school to the car to behind the plate, when was I supposed to warm her up?

You weren't. That was why I asked the questions. I firmly believe that there comes an age where it's time that for players to come out of their shell and speak up when they know something's wrong. IME, depending on the maturity level of the individual, this usually happens around the age of 14 and sometimes a little later. Therefore, it's on the coaches and something should be said about the situation. If it was a 16U TB team, then I would have said your DD should have spoken up and said she needed to throw at the very least.

Hind sight is 20/20. Are you only thinking she should have warmed up now that she's sore, or did you actually consider it when you arrived?

If it's just occurring to you now after the fact that she's a little sore, then both you and the coach got caught up in the moment of getting the game going and just overlooked it. It happens.

If you actually thought of it as you arrived, then go ahead and say something to DD in between innings..."hey, you should throw and stretch on the sidelines while your team is batting so you can get warmed up." The coach is getting the game going and has 10-12 other players to think about too, he's probably not thinking about one girl warming up because it's already the first inning. Even tell her on the way, get some warm-ups in when you get a chance.

If there's something you're unhappy about, maybe start with thinking about what DD or you could have done differently first, before putting it all on the coach. I'd move on and be happy he has the confidence in her to put her in right away as his first choice!

As soon as I saw her come out behind the plate I thought that's not good. I try not to interfere with the coach and how they run the game so I usually stay away from the dugout, but to be honest it did not occur to me to tell her to warm up between innings, now I know.

Did she have to make any long throws in the first inning? Throwing the ball back 40 ft to the pitcher sounds like warming up to me. It's not idea but it's not like she is a pitcher.

She could have finished up warming up while the team was hitting in the first inning as well.

I would more concerned about not properly stretching out dynamically before the game. The sore arm is probably due to throwing mechanics that need to be cleaned up.

Yeah she had to make three throws to second, two to third, and one to first, getting outs on two of the throws.

Why on earth didn't she properly stretch and warm up between the 1st and 2nd inning? Was the 1st inning such a nightmare that she was throwing to bases every pitch?
Its hard to imagine that she'd be smoked after one inning...
