Really? I would have thought pitching was one area where you can be a one trick pony. Of course, as a pitcher, if you want to play in more than, say, 1 game a day at tournaments, then you better be good at playing another position.

Well all the stress and worry was for nothing. My daughter's other two tryout sessions were much better than the first and she made the tier 1 team as a 12 year old in the 14u age group. Her coach provided little feedback because he was so swamped. He said that she showed tremendous improvement in her first year of competitive ball and expects great leaps from her next year. One happy parent and even a happier girl!

Now that's out of the way, any of you know a good article for off season workouts,

The team has have 4 strong pitchers, all a little different in what and how they throw, only carry 11 on the team. Up front at tryouts coach told pitchers and catchers, if you aren't strong in either infield or outfield you are at the wrong tryout, I expect every girl here to be able to play 2 positions and do so very well. They are a second 14u team.

All's well that ends well!!

I do agree with the post that coaches want athletes. Many of them would rather have a kid with a huge upside than a kid with a low ceiling that works hard. It's the belief that "I can get a ton more out of that kid" that drives that mentality.
