After several weeks of tearing it up in tryouts, when to all appearances all the passion and love of the game that have been leeched out of her the last few seasons, she told me she's not going to do this anymore.

She's had a trail of cr@ppy coaches, kept thinking this time maybe we found something worth her investment in time, emotion, and effort, but just never did. In my mind, just one good experience in the last two years could have changed the landscape for her, but who knows.

I was never an athlete as a kid, so this world of youth sports was entirely alien to me. I'm glad this place was here to provide a refreshing dose of sanity. Thanks for the laughs.

A couple of times at the end of the summer I have wondered if DD would announce the same. This year's summer replacement coach was able to bring DD to tears in CO which was a feat as no other coach has managed that in 9 years of SB.

guero_gordo, depending upon her age she may come to miss it but regardless, the time you two have spent together is yours forever. I hope she is able to keep the good parts of SB and let the rest go.

I am a believer that it ain't over til it's over. For example, my daughters have played tennis for the school team the past couple/few years. It's not their serious sport, softball is, but earlier in the summer they told me that they weren't going to play this year. Two days before tryouts they told me they wanted to play so I didn't save the $380 that I thought that I was going to save. In short, I am trying to say that feelings change. Right now your daughter just may be very fed up and frustrated with softball and needs a break. Just in case it might not be the right thing for her to quit, take all the pressure off. Let her sit out a season if that what she wants. Perhaps it may seem fun to her again at some point?

The problem is your thinking. Dont think.....

If she is having issues with bad coaching find her a team that has superior coaching. I know there out there cause we have seen them. But if she still feels that negative about the situation just get her into another sport. Water Polo for girls is crazy intense ........

GG - I hope she changes her mind, but wish her (and you) the best regardless of which road she chooses next.

Maybe you can get her to agree to take a step back and find a B-level team where having fun is more important than winning?

I can relate we've had tough coach/team situations the whole way through and my DD has about had it - I am somewhat hopeful for this year but to tell you the truth after a few of our experiences I've almost given up hope myself. But people keep telling me there are great situations out there - I hope there is one for both our girls. And I would sure miss you sense of humor on here - not sure if it's good or not that it's usually what I'm thinking, or exactly what makes me laugh :)

Don't know what part of Cali you're in but my DD just left a team from the Imperial Valley (El Centro/Brawley/Calexico) with great coaches and no problem with her (I mean, us) driving 4 hours RT from San Diego to El Centro and back for weekday practices. DD did her workouts, pitching, batting, etc. on her own and it worked out great. I'm sure there are still non-asshat coaches out there that will actually make players better without using them up and spitting them out like broken cogs. Best of luck to you and your DD.
