I was thinking of this for a few weeks. The end is near. DD's last time she will play softball will be this weekend tournament. She had her last team practice last night. It was kind of odd because it didn't feel like the last of anything. Even during the hr drive back home.

DD started playing softball like many here at the age of 5. She didn't get into travel until 10U and immediately fell in love with the whole thing. Early on she did think about playing Varsity on her HS team and maybe play in college. But in the last couple years she has changed her mind about all that. About a lot of things. She's involved in FHA. She does track instead of playing softball for her school. She plans on going to college but not play softball at the same time. Hopes to join the Navy one day too.

She had one of the best years this year. Funny thing, one of her best years was her first! Odd how that happened. She's had her ups and downs though. Some great coaches and some not so. This year's coach has had her playing just about all positions but pitching and 1st base. She's the #2 catcher, but will fill in at 3rd. Occasionally OF. And when some girls are injured or can't show up for a tournament she's at 2nd or SS.

She's been a lot of fun to watch. We've had some great conversations driving to and from practice and tournaments. I'll miss those drives the most.

Well, I really enjoyed my time here at DFP. So many folks that were helpful with a lot of things. A lot of funny folks too!

Yep. That's part of the magic in the experience. The DD's just don't realize it yet.

Just because your DD isn't playing doesn't mean you have to leave DFP. I'm sure you have some experiences that will be valuable to a young player/new parent.

When all is said and done it will be the drive time I miss the most too. You learn a lot about each other when you are in a car for a couple of hours.

Consider yourself lucky. My DD was narcoleptic. In the car for more than 20 minutes she was sleeping. Getting there for an 8:00 AM game, forget it. She had her blanket and pillow with her and slept till we got to the fields. With all the practice she got sleeping in the car it made it easy in college when they were travelling for hours on the bus. She would sleep during the 12 hour ride back to school on a Sunday.

Just remember this. She won't remember weather the lawn was mowed. The house picked up and spotless, years from now, but she will remember the times you spent together. Her memories of those days will stay in her heart forever. This journey may have reached the destination, but the next one is just beginning. Stay strong my brother, the curtain is about to open for the next act.

Some day you DD will be older and have kids and will talk fondly to them of the time she got to spend with her dad. She'll do the same with her kids and the cycle of good parenting continues. It's sounds like she had a great career and more important had fun. She is making smart decisions and looking out for the future. As a parent you never reach the finish line, but it seems like you are out front right now.
