DD 10 has been pitching for a year, she's been doing really well this fall. After a game yesterday one of the umps was saying to one of the other parents on her team(I was standing right behind where they were sitting) that he was really looking forward to watching Ella as she gets older. He said he was especially impressed with how to she was able to keep control in the circle and make adjustments when needed. I don't remember what else he said because I was too busy trying not to cry, lol. She said the other umpire, who was on of the fun, good umps that I like to see at 10u, asked her if she had been pitching since she could pick up a softball, lol. It was a good day for her, especially after having some confidence issues in the spring.

Isn't that great when the umpires (who see lots of players) make a comment about your DD? I had an umpire this weekend turn around and say to those of us behind the backstop "I don't know if any of you are her mom but she is one of the best catchers that I have seen in a long time. She has a fantastic arm and blocks almost everything - I feel very safe behind her". When I told him that I was her mom he said "You should be very proud". And that was her 4th game of the day. Teared up a bit myself...

Congrats to you and your DDs! It's always a great thing when others "sit up and take notice" of the hard work our DD's have been doing to further their skills.

I was really touched once: by the time DD #1 got to 14U, she was pretty much a fixture at 3B. Oddly enough, I later noticed that DD #3 had NEVER played 3B at the 12U level.

One time during tryouts for a rec-league all-star team, the coaches saw DD #3 play 3B. These were the same coaches for her TB team. Usually she was P, SS or OF for her TB team.

The next tournament, DD #3 started at 3B the first game, and this was the first time she had ever played that position. The coach for the OTHER team gave DD some high fives from his 3rd base coach box after she made some great plays at third.

I felt really proud of DD, but that also showed quite a bit of class for the other team's coach.

Now I'm wondering if it was the same guy who I thought was just flirting with my DD. On the ride home, DD was telling me about this nice umpire. She said that he had talked to her the entire game. I guess when I switched her to CF from SS he said to her, "You're a great short-stop. Why's he putting you in CF?" Well, little did he know that CF and LF were her most experienced positions. She was only out there for a few innings in our five game Saturday.

Anyway, after dantay17's post I wondered if we had the plate umpire umpiring the bases sometime that day. DD said he was a very nice personable umpire.

Was that a "shameless" enough brag?

I didn't see the one that complimented my DD before game 4. And there wasn't any "flirting"- just compliments to a player that was working her tail-feathers off. I thought that it was nice of him to recognize her effort. :)

Well, I think of all the catchers we faced, she was, without question, the one with the strongest and most accurate arms on her pick-off attempts and throw-downs to 2nd on steals. Did some very nice framing as well. And, not to forget that home-run over the fence... Given she's only a sophomore, she's got a bright future in softball!
