My daughter recently began some semi-private hitting lessons (she's in a group of 4 girls). These are not cheap, but I feel it's probably worth it in the long run as she tends to listen to other folks better than she listens to me.

Should I be tipping the instructor in addition to the regular fee?

I wouldn't and if I were the instructor I wouldn't expect it. There were times when I was giving golf lessons that I would spend an extra hour or whatever with a student and wouldn't charge them or expect anything for it. I had a vested interest in wanting my students to succeed and everything over and above the regular slot was just me wanting the best for them. No different than when I stay after practice now to work with whoever wants to stay and take extra grounders or whatever except I never get paid for this.

I have never been offered a tip on top of the $20 per hour fee. Nor would I accept one. Like Slappers said. We are primarily interested in seeing the kids success. The pay is just a bonus

Private lessons, I usually found a way to provide coffee every few weeks, but by far the best thing we did to show appreciation was teach the kids to listen and say thank you.
