I was inspired by the post about coaches who had inadvertently hurt players. It's dangerous being a parent too!

Four weeks ago on Sunday, DD wanted to go out and play catch. She threw one to me that glanced off the top of my glove and into my eyeglasses, knocking them into my cheekbone. Most of the swelling and bruising is gone, but I still have a huge aching bump on my cheek. I'm hoping it will be gone by Thanksgiving.

I told her I was done as a catching partner and I went online and bought her a $99 Louisville Slugger rebounder. We put it together enough to use on Saturday afternoon (it was a bear getting the net stretched enough to bungie at both ends so we only got one side finished) and she loved it. It's completely different from the lousy rickety little $35 rebounder she had as a small girl. It's sturdy (took hard throws with no problems) and the balls zip right back. She started working with it and figuring out how to get it to come right back to her, do grounders and fly balls, etc. I think she enjoyed the little low bloops that she had to run and make diving catches on the best. I just stood a safe distance to the side and watched! :D

If there are any unskilled parents like me out there, I can recommend this rebounder.

Told this story before. Pitching batting practice to DD, she hits a line drive right at me. Hits me in the side of the "beer belly". Not sure if its me getting old and lack of testosterone or she's getting stronger but, I had tears in my eyes. Good thing I had sunglasses on to hide me being a baby. Been hit alot lately. I think DD is aiming.

When I stopped I had full catcher's gear. I learned my lesson the hard way, trying to catch the drop ball in an indoor facility. I have empathy for anyone that trys to catch a dd. I use to be a catcher, but I didn't wear bifocals then! rdbass I always use an L screen and she still got me in the top of the head. Slapped one hard into the floor indoors , bounced off the top of net then back down and beamed me.

I made the mistake of catching in flip flops not once but twice. One of my big toe nails is almost back to normal the other nail just came off this weekend. Gonna need full gear soon.I think she did it on purpose. Then I took a linedrive off my glove to the chest last week. Need a screen.

SBFAMILY,
The worst I got it was "smart" dad was catching in front of a brickwall so, if I missed I didn't have to chase the ball. Bad idea ball flys by me hits wall and before I could turn around hits me in the back of the head. Concussion and a big lump. I blame the bruises on the wife.

I hear you all! It's been getting scarier and scarier to play with her over the last few years. In retrospect, I SHOULD have been wearing her catcher's gear. But I'm thinking even wearing the gear wouldn't protect all of me--IMO I'm better off completely out of the way.

My husband got some looks the past few weeks when we were out together! Only one person at work knew what happened to me before hearing the explanation--he had a boy who played HS baseball and nailed him the exact same way. Everyone else thought I'd been in a fight/been beaten or in a car accident.
