I was inspired by the post about coaches who had inadvertently hurt players. It's dangerous being a parent too!
Four weeks ago on Sunday, DD wanted to go out and play catch. She threw one to me that glanced off the top of my glove and into my eyeglasses, knocking them into my cheekbone. Most of the swelling and bruising is gone, but I still have a huge aching bump on my cheek. I'm hoping it will be gone by Thanksgiving.
I told her I was done as a catching partner and I went online and bought her a $99 Louisville Slugger rebounder. We put it together enough to use on Saturday afternoon (it was a bear getting the net stretched enough to bungie at both ends so we only got one side finished) and she loved it. It's completely different from the lousy rickety little $35 rebounder she had as a small girl. It's sturdy (took hard throws with no problems) and the balls zip right back. She started working with it and figuring out how to get it to come right back to her, do grounders and fly balls, etc. I think she enjoyed the little low bloops that she had to run and make diving catches on the best. I just stood a safe distance to the side and watched!
If there are any unskilled parents like me out there, I can recommend this rebounder.
