The only good thing about this past weekend was that we played one of the best teams in the area. My DD will be trying out for them after nationals in Cary. Like I have read before every game is a tryout. She played great and almost took out there pitcher with a line drive. We have known the coaches of this team for years and she always visits them when we at the same tournaments. We actually stayed and continued to watch them play as one of there players is a classmate of my DD's. They will be at Nationals but they won 5 qualifiers. I don't want her to be perceived as a quiter by other teams, because word gets around. I don't know what to do, I was excited at the beginning of the season about this trip but I have lost it.

DD's best friend's team backed into a berth at 10U ASA nationals a few years back without winning anything locally - between pool and bracket play they were outscored 56-1. Blowing a week of vacation and 1000s of $$ to hang out somewhere you'd never go for vacation and getting pasted on the field - priceless, I guess.

Why did they go? Well, later in August in the local softball forums the coach was posting for his tryouts. "Coming off of a season where we went to ASA nationals, we are.....". Maybe the parents beat their chests the same way; I dunno.
I think a lot of teams go because these organzations do a great job of marketing the events and putting it in everybody's head that ever college coach in the world will be there to see your DD play - as if they have the time to scout every girl at the tournament. There is a load of money to be made and people will find a way to take it out of your pocket.

I tend to agree with those who say to stay home and play if your team has no business being there.

Well if it couldn't get any worse, one of the nicest DD's on the team quit because the coach sat her Sunday morning. He choose to play his DD who made about 15 errors all weekend. This girl left 10 min early from a practice because she also play a summer outdoor basketball league. Now we were never told, I overheard them talking. So my DD saw the one girl on Facebook and asked what was going on. She told her that she quit. She also told her that they were planning on bringing DD's from the other 12U to Cary. One problem one of the DD's on this team was a bully to my DD last year at school. If they ask her to go what a nightmare!!!! Things just keep getting worse. Oh and yes they already have it there website on the tryout page that we went to nationals. What a joke!!!

DD can take care of herself but I will not tolerate this. Talk to the HC.

My life isn’t so bad after all.

I'm going to have to call foul for misuse of the abbreviation 'DD'.

You're predicting a nightmare based on a rumor you heard secondhand that originated on Facebook? I have a sneaking suspicion that the reality of all the situations surrounding this team is a wee bit less dramatic than you're making it seem.

Fortunately, you have options and you have Facebook. When you go in search of your next team - assuming you have not picked it out already - you now know to be sure to check the Facebook posts of all the prospective players to ensure they aren't causing too much trouble. It's not a bad idea to do that, I suppose, but I do think it's a bad idea to believe everything you read on Facebook.

If your DD doesn't want to go on the trip, encourage her to fulfill her obligations to the team, but do not make her go. I respect your teaching her about honoring her commitments, but she is old enough to make that determination on her own since this tournament was not originally scheduled.

My DDs team was pulled out of a nationals tourney because the organization head was concerned that we would be done early and make the organization look bad! There are a few girls (16U) causing personality problems and we are having some of it affect on field play. He also wants us to bring in ringers to help. The parents voted and half said no way due to the catty girls presence and the ather half said no way to the ringers.

It is a great experience if ALL the girls are on board AND their families. If some of the party is not on board it will be miserable.
