Looking for a quality Pitching Instructor in the Gainesville, VA area. Also, any recommended training facilities? Lastly, what are the preferred 8-10u travel teams in this area?

Lastly, have a college aged baseball player so I've been outta the youth game for awhile. Is a Feb 2007 aged S-Ball player in the 8u or 10u travel ball division? She's played 10u league for a while but I want to play her in the correct division for travel ball.

Thank in advance!

Tim, looks like your daughter would be eligible for 8u, however, I don't believe there are many 8u teams in VA...usually see travel ball tourneys for 10u and up.

As far as teams in your area, the following organizations come to mind off the top of my head: Loudoun Storm, Manassas Blaze, Baseliners, Ashburn Shooting Stars, Vienna Stars, Vienna Velocity, Loudoun Inferno, Shamrocks, and Leesburg Revolution.

I’m pretty sure the Baseliners, Ashburn Shooting Stars, Vienna Stars, and Shamrocks have been around for a while, but not sure about the others. I'm not sure if the Baseliners are fielding a team lower than 12 or 13u this year though.

Good luck. I hope she finds a good fit.

It's harder now than ever to find a 10u travel team in Nova. Of the org's previously mentioned the only ones likely to field 10u teams this fall are the Vienna Stars and Ashburn Shooting Stars. Rich Levin has run the 10u Vienna Stars forever and does a good job with it but it will be very competitive to make the team and difficult to make the commute from Gainesville to Vienna for practices. I don't know who will be coaching the Ashburn shooting stars but they are a good org and will likely field a 10u team. My kids started with the SYA Xplosion (youngest played 10u with them) and they are a good developmental organization and popular with Gainesville residents because it's easy to get to but they may not get enough interest to field a team. I would recommend going to their tryout because if they get 10 commits they will most likely field a team and your dd will get plenty of playing time.

On the pitching coach recommendation, Denny Tincher is a good choice but he is unlikely to be available enough to get your dd enough lessons to progress at this early age. Jim Brackin will be retiring soon but for the next year or so you should be able to get consistent (one a week or every other week) lessons with him and I think he now teaches in Woodbridge which should be manageable from Gainesville. Mainly though, don't get hung up on getting your dd on a travel team just to get her into travel ball. If a travel team isn't a good fit, let her play house ball for a year or two and she'll easily be able to make the move to travel at 12u or latter. Good luck.

PS- I forgot to mention the Virginia Glory, they will very likely field a 10u team and practice somewhere in southwestern Fairfax County.

You had better jump quickly on finding a team. Tryouts are going on now.

Lastly, what are the preferred 8-10u travel teams in this area?

Not sure what you mean by preferred. You can view all the teams holding tryouts in the area by visiting Travel Fastpitch Softball: Tryouts, Softball Camps, Athletic Training. Sign up (it's free) and then look at the calendar. You can filter for just 10u. (No, I am not affiliated with that site)

You can also visit https://www.facebook.com/pages/Virginia-Cannons/167921483227661 for a local team.

The pitching coaches I know are in northern Loudoun - too far for you in Gainesville. Have you looked at the local indoor hitting cages? They usually have pitching coaches on staff.
